The 20th century ushered in an era of complex international relations for Canada. Complications within the Canadian Parliament, following 1939 are brought to light by Canadian Journalist Judith Robinson. Judith focuses much of her attention on conflicts and events such as Canadian efforts during WWI, the Transnational Pipeline Debate, and the Suez Crisis of 1956-1957 in the Middle East.

Much of Judith’s criticisms land on the Parliament members of Clarence Decatur Howe, Lester B. Pearson, and St Laurent Cabinet. These members held important positions within the House of Commons that required close engagement with Canadian conflicts. It was in their contributions and decisions towards Canadian conflicts such as the Pipeline debate, and the Suez Crisis, that Judith finds most of her concern.

Provided is a collection of information on select members of the Canadian Parliament during the years preceding WWII, until 1957. The sources gathered have been used to complete and expand on the opinions and understandings provided by Judith Robinson within her work, This is on The House (1957). Careful evaluation of Clarence Decatur Howe, and Lester B. Pearson through the lens of additional sources, will allow for a more comprehensive understanding of the Canadian conflicts criticized by Judith.
