William Gladstone Hilborn
335444 Gunner William Gladstone Hilborn was born in New Hamberg Ontario on the 11th of April 1899. At the time of his enlistment, he was nineteen years of age and unmarried.
His attestation and medical examination were held on the 13th of May 1918 at Guelph Ontario. Approved on the 20th of May 1918 and posted to the 64th Depot Battery Canadian Field Artillery Canadian Expeditionary Force in Petawawa Ontario for training.
On completion of training, he was to proceed overseas with the Battery. On arriving by train in Halifax Nova Scotia on the 9th of September 1918 he reported for Sick Parade and was admitted to Cogswell Street Hospital as dangerously ill.
Tragically William passed away on the 14th of October of the Spanish Flu. Having been on active service at the time of his death his mother Mrs. Rosetta Hilborn as his next of kin received The Memorial Cross on May 7th, 1920, and the Memorial Plaque on September 15th, 1920.
William is interned at the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Freelton Ontario.
