The art of Calling Canada
By looking at the elements and principals of design we will look at what makes the advertisements for Calling Canada so effective. The elements and principals of design are what draws a viewer eye into an artwork and makes it memorable.
The advertisements ran weekly for 17 weeks in the Globe and Mail, and it total the cost was around $45,575 and were full page ads making them not easy to ignore. 15
While some might say that it was the size that drew the viewers in, and while this is not incorrect this does not account for the other steps taken to make the ads striking.
It should be noted that there is no record of who drew and designed the ads. According to reporter MacLean only 3 people worked under the Calling Canada name: Judith Robinson, John Robertson Robinson, and Oakley Hedley Dalgleish.16
