CBC Career

[Margaret "The Dragon Lady" Lyons at CBC]

While working for the BBC, Margaret Lyons had the opportunity to interview Lester B. Pearson, the 1957 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, who also encouraged Lyons to join the Canadian journalism industry. Heartened by Pearson's invitation, Lyons decided it was time to head back home to Canada in 1960.

Lyons began her career at the Canadian Broadcasting Company as a radio producer. Once again, Lyons worked her way up, becoming an executive producer, program director, and eventually vice president of the English Radio Services. Margaret worked with radio personalities such as Mark Starowicz, Peter Gzowski, Barbara Frum, and David Suzuki in his early radio days. Margaret also worked with Stuart McLean creating programs such as As It Happens, Morningside, and Quirks and Quarks.
