At the age of 21, Margaret Lyons (nee Inouye) embarked to Hamilton, hwere she enrolled at McMaster University, one of the few Canadian institutions that welcomed Japanese students after the Pearl Harbour attacks. At McMaster, Lyons attended to her studies, met her future husband Edward, and became the editor-in-chief of the Silhouette, a student run newspaper. Margaret and Ed Lyons graduated in 1949, each with a degree in Economics.
