Lyons Legacy
"I have made a bequest to McMaster University - it is my desire to help students succeed in this very challenging world. Through my support, I know that I will make a difference for many students today and in the future. This is my legacy" -- Margaret Lyons
The Humanities Communication Centre
In 1996, Margaret Lyons donated $100,000 to McMaster University for the creation of a Communication Centre in the Faculty of Humanities. The Centre would be located in the Humanities Computing complex in Togo Salmon Hall, enabling its teaching, language, and computer labs to be utilized by the Centre.
Lyons Instructional Media Centre
In 2006, Margaret gave her contributions towards the Margaret and Edward Lyons Instructional Media Centre, previously located in room 314 of Togo Salmon Hall. This Centre was a merger between School of Art Slide Library and the McMaster Video Library.
Lyons New Media Centre
In September 2010, the Lyons New Media Centre (LNMC) opened on the 4th floor of Mills Library. Another transformation of the original Humanities Communication Centre, the LNMC is an expanded space to support McMaster students in learning about new media and creative technologies through digital media projects, video editing, podcasting and other audio creation, VR exploration and so on. The Centre is continually changing to keep abreast of the changing creative technologies.
